Apology Lab Members

Past Lab Members

Josh was a Psychology and Rhetoric & Media Studies double major from New York and England. He was a committed member of the Apology Project research team, taking a short break to study abroad in Dublin. He joined the lab after taking a Social Psychology class with Dr. Leonard and felt like the research was a good continuation of the material learned in class. After graduating, Josh plans on staying in Portland for at least a year, and then plans on either joining the Peace Corps or going to graduate school. In his free time, Josh likes to play pool, darts, and chess and is a self-proclaimed movie buff. He hopes to travel to all of the continents one day and would choose shape-shifiting as a super power.

Lauren Heald

Lauren was a Chemistry major from Oklahoma. She wanted to join the lab to gain more in-depth experience in the field of Psychology after taking a Social Psychology class with Dr. Leonard. In her free time, she enjoys reading and playing ultimate Frisbee. Something on her bucket list is to be able to see the northern lights and she would want to be able to fly if she had a super power. Although she wants to take a few years off after college to travel, Lauren plans on getting more involved in research before continuing on to graduate school.

Kat (LC Psych '14) first met Dr. Leonard when she took Social Psychology (S13). This is where Kat was introduced to topics in psychology that deeply interested her, such as intergroup and personal identity, stereotypes and prejudice, and general group dynamics. She first volunteered in Dr. Leonard's lab in the summer of 2013, studying the effectiveness of intergroup apology. In the fall of 2014, Kat was able to take Dr. Leonard's Advanced Social Psychology capstone course where she learned about intergroup contact and relations more in depth. Post-graduation, Kat was hired as our summer lab manager. She currently works as an Americorp volunteer for Portland Youth Builders. She plans on pursuing a Master's degree in conflict resolution, and hopes to work in mediation and/or in the non-profit sector in the future. Kat enjoys consuming stories (on a page, or on a screen), stretching, getting enough sleep, and searching for buried treasure in her spare time.
