According to the Department of Education Athletic Handbook, an Athletic Health Care Trainer is a critical member of the school’s athletic program. For more detailed information about the Athletic Health Care Trainer’s role and responsibilities, please refer to the Department of Education Athletic Health Care Trainers’ Manual, 1998.
Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of urgent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic Trainers are licensed health care providers.
Athletic trainers at minimum have a Bachelor’s in Sports Medicine with an emphasis in Athletic Training and are required to pass the Board of Certification exam in order to practice as an Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC). In Hawaii, ATC’s must also be licensed through the state of Hawaii.
