Day 5 draws to a close, and while the students are as tired as they have been all week they have had a spring in their step, perhaps partly due to the fact they knew they were heading home. However, this wasn’t the only reason for the extra bounce today. As each group came in from their final activity the same animated chatter resonated about the group. There was the experience of the muddy bog from those coming back from the river, the “accidental” water fight when hosing down the kayaks, the balloons in the face from the trebuchet and the “16 second record” for the climbing wall – and all this came from the staff let alone the stories the students were sharing with each other.
In reflecting upon the week one of the things that has stood out for me is how varied the response was to the question of “what was your favourite activity?” I take real heart from this, as it suggests that we have managed to create a balanced programme that gave a breadth of experience that allowed everyone to find something that fitted them.
Your children have been a credit to you, KGV School, but most importantly to themselves. I would like to reiterate again how impressed the North Star staff have been with the attitude, team work and support they have brought to their week at camp. As a KGV staff team, we have been impressed too (even though we had an idea of what they could do).
These reflections recorded over the last 5 days only scratch the surface of a week at Year 8 Camp and it will be the stories that your child tells you when they get home that will bring the camp to life for you. Ask them lots of questions, but you might have to wait until tomorrow as they may well be asleep. Have a good weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone in school come Monday.
