The ISLA/LOLA team has been our partner since the very first KGV Spanish Immersion trip in 2014. They are led by an English woman and her German husband. Their team is composed of native, qualified and experienced teachers and activity leaders with whom we have worked very closely and who have given us complete satisfaction. We trust ISLA to help us achieve another successful immersion trip.

About the trip

This immersion trip's purpose is to give year 11 students the opportunity to significantly improve their language skills and achieve a higher grade in their IGCSE examination and to develop their social and independence skills.

Salamanca's prestigious University was founded in 1218, and has just celebrated its 800th birthday. Salamanca was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 and is one of Spain's most beautiful towns.

During the immersion week, students will study Spanish in small groups at ISLA/LOLA every morning with native Spanish teachers and do cultural activities in the afternoons and evenings. We will visit Salamanca's historical centre and other beautiful and prestigious Spanish places such as Madrid, the Sierra de Francia and El Escorial. We will gorge on Chocolate con Churros for breakfast, eat Paella together and go out for Tapas in the evenin. We will learn to dance Flamenco as well as see a Flamenco show. We will go see Pablo Picasso's Guernica in Madrid as well as the fabulous newly renovated Bernabeu Stadium, home to Real Madrid. And more.

We guarantee that students will use their language skills outside the classroom when out exploring and visiting local shops and markets. To maximize their immersion, they will be staying in groups of two or three with local host families who speak only Spanish and who will cook for them and converse with them in Spanish.  Students will walk to and from school with their roommates. Homestaying is usually the aspect of the trip that students find most enjoyable and perhaps most challenging.
