About the activity
This week is all about taking the time, providing the space, and finding the inspiration to write. Whether you're a poet, a novelist, a song writer, a playwright, a journalist, a writer of graphic novels, or just starting to find your voice...all levels of experience are welcome and all mediums of writing valid. This is an incredible opportunity to get feedback on your work and to network with a variety of writers.
Throughout the week, there will be a number of opportunities to engage with both local and international writers. The week will involve:
A workshop with graphic novel and comic artist Kaitlin Chan
Further workshops with local writers of non-fiction, including local newspapers and universities (to be confirmed once we know what kinds of writing the group are most interested in)
Visits to some of Hong Kong's cultural sites, with time to explore and time to write
It's important to note that our plan for the week contains some flexibility; workshops will be planned to suit the needs, interests, and ambitions of the group.
Writing, in all its forms, is inherently tied to creativity. Through developing your ability to craft meaning and tell stories, you are also learning to explore, challenge, and develop ideas. Across the course of the week, you will develop a portfolio of work (a collection of poetry, perhaps, or a zine that collates different types of writing on a common theme) that reflects your engagement with this; if you have a single, larger project in mind (a novella, for example, or a graphic novel), you are also encouraged to work on this.
