This is a very rewarding and interesting week. You will be interacting with and assisting with students, helping to create resources and you will have the opportunity to work alongside the class teacher, a team of Education Assistants and members of the therapy team. It is an opportunity to learn so much about education and to contribute to a very special school.
There is a further opportunity to work with specialist therapists where you could gain experience of occupational or physical therapy.
You will support all aspects of ‘the learning journey’ and this may include accompanying classes on school trips. Morning breaks and lunch breaks are agreed with the class teacher and may be brief as the school is a very busy place and no-one sits for long!
Prior to starting you will be asked to submit a CV to the school and to attend an induction meeting. You will be provided with a copy of the school handbook for Education Assistants and given a guided tour of the school.
Whilst on placement at JCSRS you will be expected to work from 8.45am – 3.30pm with the possibility of staying on after school for meetings if appropriate.
You will be very active for this week, you'll find out why your teachers look so tired! You will be pushed to be creative in the way you deal with students and during resource creation and possibly presentation of a lesson or session.
The main element for this activity is service as you contribute to a very special school and make a positive difference to the environment and experience of their students.
