Monday Nov 1st - meeting places
Students travelling with us on the bus will meet on Monday Nov 1st, by 8am, outside Kowloon Junior School. If you are making your own way, please meet us at Sha Ha Beach in Sai Kung.
Full Value Contract; Traffic Light- The Traffic Light system provides a quick and easy way for participants to self-evaluate and determine how to adjust. Reflecting on the actions from the initial Traffic Light allows the students to assess, adapt, and apply gained insights when making decisions and taking actions.
Kayaking - Students will continue to build their water confidence and go on a short journey around the bay. They will refine their forwards, backwards and turning paddle strokes from previous experience, and begin to learn skills such as stopping quickly and using their paddles as rudders.
Hiking – Students will keep practicing and developing their navigation skills from previous years, while extending the length and duration of the hike. Students will be given different route options along the way, explore their environment and continue learning and following LNT principles.
Canyoning – Students will venture up a canyon navigating their way through a rocky river bed by scrambling over rocks, splashing through water, walking on dirt trails and exploring the environment around them in the process. At points staff will lead the way, but students will also get the opportunity in sections to choose their own path. In more technical sections handlines will be available for the students. Along the way students learn multiple techniques to filter water, and then get to practice them by making a rock/sand/charcoal filter in a bottle, constructing a solar still, and distilling water. After experimenting with these methods, they can scientifically test their filtered water for impurities.
This activity can continue in moderate adverse weather, with staff adapting the route as necessary.
Coasteering – This is our most advanced coasteering course with some challenging terrain. Students explore a rocky coastline using a variety of exciting techniques. Activities on this coasteering course may include abseiling, two possible climbing routes, and a zipline.
In moderate adverse weather this activity can continue.
In severe adverse weather the students will participate in Tribe quest: For this student will be put into teams and must come up with a name and chant for their tribe before tackling an obstacle course and team-building challenges around sheltered or indoor spaces at the camp.
Action Plan; Value Map- The Values Map helps students to identify what is important to them, encouraging them to make choices and set goals based on the things they truly value.
