Application Process
Admission Requirements
Admission to Kean University does not mean acceptance into any K-12 teacher certification program. Students seeking admission to the major must complete the application and all of the required courses, tests, and requirements, including their Professional Essay. The official checklist of requirements appears below and is attached at the bottom of this page.
As a prerequisite to applying to the MSE Program for Declaration of Major, a student planning to major in K-12 Teacher Certification in Spanish must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0.
When applying to the MSE Program a student in either Elementary or Secondary Education must submit the following:
Application (attached at the bottom on this page)
Personal Statement (see instructions on page 2 of “Application”)
Minimum grade point average: 3.0, which must be maintained throughout studies at Kean.
Guide Sheet (for appropriate major) or Program Evaluation (from KeanWise)
Copy of passing scores for “Core Academic Skills for Educators” (previously the Praxis I) To register, go to: www.ets.org/praxis Reading (Test #: 5712), Writing (Test #: 5722), Math (Test #: 5732) Passing scores: Reading (156), Writing (162), Math(150);
Two Letters of Academic Recommendation from professors (Template for recommendations attached at the bottom of this page)
Submission of #1 through #6 above to Dr. Shepherd.
When you have collected all the items listed above, present them to Dr. Gregory Shepherd for approval.
