HIND 1101:  Contemporary Hindi Language and Indian Culture I

This course introduces students to various aspects of the Hindi-speaking world as the context for the development of the linguistic and cultural knowledge and skills needed to become confident and competent speakers of Hindi.

HIND 1102:  Contemporary Hindi Language and Indian Culture II

This course builds upon linguistic/cultural knowledge and skills acquired in Hindi I and is designed to bring students from the Novice to the Intermediate-Low proficiency level in oral and written communication.

HIND 5800: Introduction to Hindi and Urdu Language, Culture and Society  (3-credits online)

This course provides background knowledge on the development/relationship between Hindi/Urdu language/society, the linguistic expression of ethnic, regional and other identities, and Hindi/Urdu language in literature, media and film.

HIND 5830: Hindi Literature: Language, Style and Genre  (3-credits online)

This course is designed to further develop students’ language proficiency/cultural knowledge through reading/ analyzing selected texts in Braj Bhasha and Awadhi dialects, and in modern standard Hindi in a range of literary genres.

GLOB 2101: Hindi And Urdu Language, Culture And Global Issues  (1-credit offered Summer Session only)

Global issues and daily Internet and Web 2.0-based interactions with students from India and Pakistan, serve as the context for developing the increased linguistic, cultural and global competencies necessary to reach the Advanced-Mid language proficiency level in Hindi or Urdu.
