Practice Expectations

Regular practice is one of the biggest factors in your child's success. A child who practices regularly can expect to succeed in learning to play any instrument. All students in the band can expect to practice almost every day in order to advance.

Regular practice is defined as practicing most days. That's 4 out of 7 as an absolute minimum. Length of time can vary but most students should easily fill 20-30 minutes with practicing once they start. Regularity of practice (practicing most days) is the most important part, followed by efficiency of practice.  Total practice minutes are important, but practicing is much more than just hitting a number of minutes.  Students will be taught what and how to practice. Parents will need to help establish and maintain an at home practice routine.

Students who practice regularly experience sustained motivation, high self-esteem, and enjoy being in band more than those who do not practice regularly.

Parents are always welcome to phone or email the band teachers to discuss their children's progress or any other concerns.
