In an effort to complete the US History course in a timely, yet hopefully interesting manner, you will creating your own version of a Forrest Gump style character. This character will live through the time period of 1945 at the end of WWII to the present. Your character will start off at roughly your age and then live 65 years till 2010. Your character will describe his experiences as he lives through some of the most momentous periods in our country's history.
The Components of the Project:
1. Completion of 9 vocabulary sheets that will serve as your notes.
2. The creation of your character in the form of an online avatar using the
website www.voki.com
3. The taking of Ticket Out the Door questions as you leave class most
days.
4. The taking of 4 quizzes based on the vocabulary sheets.
5. The taking of the fourth and final Benchmark Test
Directions:
1. You will be assigned a vocabulary sheet which consists of a fill in the
blank paragraph summary. You will use the Key Word sheet found
below to help you fill in the blanks. You will submit your completed
vocabulary sheet on Schoology. I will be going over the answers and
having you highlight certain sections.
2. Once you have your information you will then begin the process of
creating your avatar and story that he/she will tell. Personalize your
character as you wish. However remember that the grade is based
on the content you discuss not as much about how your avatar
looks.
a. Go to www.voki.com and create your account. You will
have to have a valid e-mail address because you will have
to confirm your e-mail.
b. You will then begin the process of creating the character
Use the video tutorial below, plus what I showed you in
class to help you design your avatar.
c. Write yourself a script for what your avatar will say. You
must discuss the highlighted terms on the key terms
sheet. Any extra that you add will be for extra credit.
d. Make your story interesting and fun. This will help you
remember the material.
e. You will make a seperate voki for each vocabulary
sheet. E-mail to me the link for each completed voki.
f. You will have some time in class, but you will have to
complete some of the work at home.
3. At the end of any class period that does not have a test there will be a
ticket out the door. These will be located on Quia.
4. After every two vocabulary sheets there will be a quiz on Quia for those
two sheets.
5. At the end of this project there will be the last Benchmark that will
cover all the material covered in the course.
Benchmark IV Review Sheet
Rubric: Here is how each item will be graded.
a. Vocabulary Sheets will be worth 25 points
b. Each quiz will be worth 50 points
c. Each Voki will be worth 100 points
The breakdown will be as follows:
--25 points for creativity
-- 9 points for each correctly used term You must use at
least 8 terms. The leftover 3 points are a gift
d. Benchmark IV is worth 200 points
