Online Driver Education
R.H.S. Driver Education recognizes that some students may choose to take the classroom phase of Driver Education online. If you do online other than Kings Peak Peak please talk to Mr. Wright and he will get you the information that you need. If you take the online class at Kings Peak please talk to the DR Ed teacher at that school.
You will be best served if you communicate with Coach Wright well in advance of finishing the classroom phase. He can then give you a realistic timetable of when the driving may begin and will do everything possible to help you finish in a timely manner. Those that follow the procedures move through the process smoothly and in a reasonable amount of time. Before you choose to do this you should understand the following: At R.H.S. we service between 500-700 students per calendar year and we drive 12 months per year. The variables that factor into "when a student will drive" are many. No two students or schedules are alike and comparisons of yourself to other students are usually not very realistic or relevant.
In other words, the driving phase may not happen exactly when you want to. You will have to be scheduled on the range first which sometimes requires a wait of several weeks/months as we schedule an entire quarter of students ahead of time and we only operate the range for a few weeks during summer. Sometimes there simply are not any available times and a wait is necessary. And, sometimes it happens right away--it's all about availability and your *eligibility date (when you are eligible to get your license) . The same is true for being assigned to a road teacher. The average wait time for online students is a few weeks up to a month or more. And again, sometimes it can happen right away.
If you are an RHS boundary student, are serious about taking the classroom phase online, and are likewise serious about doing the driving with RHS please do the following and I will be happy to help you begin and complete the driving phase
Pass an approved online course (the finishing date must be posted online in the Driver License Division’s DEMS system by your teacher--if it is not posted we cannot begin driving).
Pay the $140 behind-the-wheel fee at the R.H.S. Main office and provide proof to Coach Wright (email Skyward receipt, take receipt to him, send screenshot of payment proof)
Learner Permit: 1) email a viewable picture of your full, unfolded learner permit along with your phone number to Coach Wright or 2) take your learner permit to Coach Wright in Room 1520. Mornings are best.
Study, learn, and practice the concepts in “The 5 Head Checks” and the "Road Drive" documents. These will be emailed to you from Coach Wright once you take care of the three previous steps. These resources are major components of our classroom curriculum and align with the state core curriculum. Even though you did not take the classroom phase at RHS, you will be required to know this information and demonstrate these defensive driving principles on your road drives & the state road test.
Once steps 1-3 happen, Mr. Wright will send you the electronic documents and will also give you a realistic time frame for beginning. When that time arrives, you'll be contacted with range scheduling information and procedures. If you do not respond, nothing will happen.
