Homework Tips
Students: Homework is YOUR responsibility--not your parents'! Here are some helpful hints for you to become a successful and happy 3rd grader. :)
Use your planner! Jot down assignments and due dates, and make sure to study for upcoming tests. Show your planner to your parents, and explain each assignment listed--even if you finished at school. Use this time to summarize what you learned that day--the information will "stick" in your brain longer this way! And, it can be YOUR turn to be the teacher! :)
Set aside a time and place each night to do your homework. Find a quiet place to study or work, and try to stick to the same time each night, so that it becomes a routine. Reward yourself with TV or a fun activity when you are DONE with your homework, so you'll have something to look forward to once you've finished.
Find a "study buddy!" It could be a parent, sibling, friend, or neighbor. When studying for a test, weekly spelling words, vocab words, or anything else---find someone who can "quiz" you on the material. Have them read aloud the information in a question format, and you answer them. Or, have them read questions to you, and you write them down on a "mock" test.
Stay organized, and make sure you bring your homework to and from school in your take-home folder. Try putting "to do" work on one side of the folder and "completed work" on the other side, so you can move it over as you finish it. Also, remember to bring home all notes and other graded papers to show your parents each night. Don't just throw it, first you have to SHOW IT! :)
