What is Liberal Arts?

The Course of Health and Physical Education is opened in ICU where is Liberal Arts College.

What is Liberal Arts? Liberal means Freedom and Arts is plural form of 'art' in general. But in Here, it means the way of skill, the art of skill and science. After all, 'the way of skill for Freedom' is Liberal arts. Now then, From what is Freedom? Why 'Arts' is used instead of knowledge? That is you think about a scene of study in ICU.

The way of being Freedom - Arts and Technique

We think at the base of 'The way of being freedom' about Health and physical Education of Liberal Arts. At the first, Word of 'Arts' seems to have other meaning than technique and skill. In general, we are called art to Geijyutu (芸術). But Art expresses by some form that someone feel good. It needs technique and skill to that expression even if excellent technique are making in it. That is consisted of Art when expression must meet same values between one and another. If it only expresses, it is enough to do with technique. But As for Art, Reciprocal action into another value is needed. It is not only to express right and good for oneself, but to appeal to a deep human mind like the another value. And 'Art' is the way of skill to invent each reciprocal action.

Physical Education as 'Arts'

We think about it by a case of physical education. It needs a technique to pitch a ball. We make sure of the meaning for receivers and a time of situation. If it can not invent a reciprocal action into two, That technique is not suitable. After all, it needs a way of skill and art.

To learn by Physical education in ICU

Thus, 'Arts' cultivates between oneself and the other. By One takes a way of skill, One is given a point of view to see one's technique relatively. Knowledge of study is also same. That is important to make a profound knowledge of one field. But It always is necessary in mind how it means into other fields and invent a reciprocal action. Therefore, One is restricted values of one's fields and can be free(Liberal).

Liberal Arts is to learn that one is free for real. Physical Education is a situation to exercise with an actual experience extremely and definitely. Such I as the dearest person meet the dearest one, to learn to invent a reciprocal action and to develop from being free as a human in a human society with special view. Therefore, Physical Education is indispensable as 'Liberal Arts' in ICU.
