DIVISIONAL INDIVIDUAL AND LARGE GROUP SPEECH
The divisional large group speech contest will be held on Monday of week 29 .
Individual speech contest will be held on Saturday of Week 34.
The Tournament is hosted on a rotating basis at participating schools.
Schedule: A judges meeting is conducted by last year’s contest manager 30 minutes prior to the contest day.
The host school may provide a meal or meal ticket for each coach.The contest (with 5 to 8 schools participating) begins at 8:00 or 9:00 AM and ends between 2 - 3:00 PM.
RULES: The conference will follow the Rules and Regulations of the Iowa High School Speech Association.
Format: Students may enter two events maximum. Each school pays $8.00 per entry with a maximum of 42 entries per varsity team and 42 per junior team with alternates allowed to perform at $8.00 per student (the JV team and alternates are rated but not ranked.) All students in each event are judged by two judges who rate AND rank each student. No oral comments are given, but ballots provided by each school are completed by the judges and returned to the office at the end of each section. These ballots are tabulated. with points given to the top five speakers. Ist place= 5 points, 2nd place -4, 3rd place=3, 4th place=2, 5th place =1. In addition each speaker who receives a 1 rating earns one team point. After all fourteen events are tabulated, the team with the most points is the tournament champion.

The top three speakers in each event are awarded medals.
The host school provides a concession stand for the students and a meal for the judges. .
Assigned school directors are each to bring material for the following draw events: radio news copy Next Year’s Host), improv situations (Last Year’s Host) and spontaneous speech topics. (Host in Two Years).
A $3.00 donation for admission is allowed for the contest.
Speech directors are responsible for the royalty rights to the performance areas.
