General Notes for WaMaC Speech
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS
We rate and rank all VARSITY performers. They are rated I , II, III, IV just like IHSSA. Each performer earns one TEAM point for each I rating.
Performers are RANKED 1-10 with all others receiving an 11 ranking. Final rank from the three judges earns the following TEAM points: 1st = 5, 2nd =4, 3rd = 3, 4th = 2, 5th = 1.
We have two judges in each center to rate and rank performers independently. There are no oral comments.
Each school provides their own comment sheets which are color coded. The contest manager will assign a school code for comment sheets.
We use approximately 7 centers with Two events in each center with JV entries added where room permits.
Contest is held on the Saturday after State Large group.
An awards ceremony is held at the end of the contest. We ask the 4th and 5th place performers to stand and be recognized. Performers in places 3rd through 1st come forward to receive their medal.
Draw events are done on a rotating basis as follows:
Radio News – Next year’s host
Spontaneous – Host in Two years
Improv – Last year’s host
Contest begins at 9:00 AM. Finish at approximately 2:00 PM
LARGE GROUPS
Performers are rated and ranked. 1st place = 5points, 2nd place = 4 points, 3rd place = 3 points, 4th place = 2 points, 5th place = 1 point. Each group also receives 1 point for a 1 rating.
Each school provides their own comment sheets which are color coded. The contest manager will assign a school code for comment sheets.
We use two judges in each center.
Contest is held on the Monday afternoon/evening prior to District Large Group. 4:00 to 8:00 PM???
Group Improv draws are sent by Next year’s host.
An awards ceremony is held only if time permits, announcing the team standings and awarding the trophy to the 1st place team.
OTHER NOTES
All WaMaC schools rotate turns hosting the large group And individual events contests.
All trophies and medals should be ordered in advance through the WaMaC AD secretary (currently West Delaware). 16 sets should be ordered to allow for ties in the individual events contest.
Judges’ meeting is held thirty minutes prior to the contest with the host from the previous year running the meeting.
A grievance committee rules on all disqualifications. This is made up of the previous host, the current host, and next year’s host.
Fees for entries should be submitted with your entries and are not refunded if students drop since judge numbers are determined by the number of anticipated entries.
Judge pay is approximately $60.????
JV students receive ratings only and are not ranked. They earn no team points. If a school has a Junior Team, no freshman is allowed to participate in any varsity events. JV events are usually scheduled in different rooms to prevent accidental rankings with the varsity.
Certificates are no longer provided by the host school for all performers earning I ratings. It is suggested that each individual school be responsible to provide these.
The host school provides the meal or meal tickets for judges and coaches.
When tabbing all coaches must help during the day. This is a huge job and in order to get the results back quickly and accurately, many hands are needed. It is necessary for next year's host to be in the tab room to know how to schedule and award points for the following year.
The host school should hire at least one secretary who is familiar with the office, the computers, and the photocopier to help with tabulating.
Host school – be sure to have final Tab sheets prepared prior to the contest, listing student’s name, and columns for each judge’s rate and rank, and a listing for the student’s Final rate, final rank, rate points, rank points, final points, and final ranking.
