Lettering in Speech/Drama

SPEECH AND DRAMA POINTS EXPLANATION

Since the advent of two IHS speech and drama awards in 1975-76, the speech and drama letter, and the Outstanding Senior Award, a point record of each participating student's speech and dramatic work is now being kept with the speech director. The requirements for each award are the following:

LETTERING:

1. The student must earn at least 15 points during a given year (this award is NOT cumulative between years), those points being earned through participating in at least two activities occurring at two different times during that year.

2. the student must prove a credit to his/her school and activity through mature and responsible behavior.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR AEWARD: (Given in the event there is a deserving candidate)

1. The student must be an active participant during his/her senior year, and must have one of the top four point totals through his/her school career among the participating seniors.

2. The student must have displayed exceptional responsibility and dependability throughout his/her high school years, proving an asset not only to him/herself, but also to those around him/her. This includes growth in leadership and participation.

Participating areas are awarded the following points (subject to change according to new developments, and all changes being retroactive toward the Outstanding Senior Award):

Other possibilites for earning points may be brought to the attention of the speech drama coaches.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to insure accurate recognition of each student, a student must, each year, "declare" his/her interest in maintenance of point records by way of an interest/information sign up form. No students is eligible for awards unless he/she has completed this form.

(All awards are presented at the annual speech banquet held in the spring).
