Argument and Debate Elective

All seventh graders at Satz take Argument and Debate, providing an excellent foundation as they move on to more advanced work and critical thinking in eighth grade and high school. Students will read and view a variety of media types and sources that present information. They will become familiar with the conventions of rhetorical argument, information expression, and debate. They will learn a variety of ways to assess the credibility and reliability of information sources. They will learn how to utilize a variety of search resources and techniques that can enhance their research of any topic. They will consider how the expression of information, ideas, and opinions can influence an audience, and create their own arguments and debates to take advantage of their research and argument skills.
