Below is a list of LOCAL scholarships.
Each year, generous businesses, organizations, and families in Shelby County and the Harlan community donate scholarships to support our seniors. We are so thankful for their generosity and commitment to our students’ futures!
Click on the scholarship name to open the application.
Use the download button (top right) to save it to your computer.
Open it in from your downloads folder and it should be a filable document.
Always “Save As” to a folder you can easily find later.
If you have trouble opening or completing a scholarship, email counselors@hcsdcyclones.com.
Read carefully! Some scholarships must be turned in to the HCHS Counseling Office, while others need to be mailed or delivered directly to the sponsoring business/organization.
Always check the application for submission instructions.
If submitting to the Counseling Office:
Place the completed application (including essays, transcripts, and recommendation letters) in a 9x11 manila envelope.
Write your name, scholarship name, and due date on the envelope.
Turn it in in the black file cabinet next to Mrs. Svensen's office in Student Services. There is a folder for each scholarship in the file cabinet organized by due date.
Add your name to the neon-colored checklist in the folder.
Most applications only require an unofficial transcript (available by email or from the counseling office).
Some may ask for an official transcript (signed, sealed, and stamped). These take more time—please plan ahead!
Create an activities résumé to save time when filling out applications.
Write a personal essay you can adapt for different scholarships.
Ask for letters of recommendation early (at least 2 weeks in advance). Ask in person when possible, and always follow up with a thank-you note.
