To graduate from Harlan Community High School, students must complete the required courses of study as determined by the State Department of Education and the Board of Directors. Students must earn 48 credits in grades 9–12, including Physical Education (unless waived).
English/Language Arts: 8 credits
Math: 6 credits
Science: 6 credits (2 semesters each of Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry)
Social Studies: 6 credits (2 semesters U.S. History, 1 semester World History, 1 semester U.S. Government)
Personal Finance: 1 credit
Physical Education: 1 credit per year 9-12, unless student meets waiver requirements
Electives: 3 credits from at least 2 areas: Agriculture | Business | Family & Consumer Science | Industrial Tech | STEM | Health Careers | Fine Arts | Other approved electives
CPR Training: All students must complete a psychomotor course leading to CPR certification, taught during the school day by a certified instructor. Harlan Community High School also accepts certification from nationally recognized CPR courses. This requirement may be waived for students physically unable to complete the course.
