Dear Transitional Kindergarten Families,
I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer and loved spending each minute with your “about to become” Transitional Kindergartener. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with your child this year.
From the perspective of a teacher, I can guarantee that this year will be a wonderful social and academic experience. Likewise, from the lens of a parent with my oldest daughter entering 10th grade this year at Burlingame High School, my middle daughter entering 6th at Crocker and my "baby" entering 4th grade at South. I can relate to all of the feelings that you are experiencing right now as you prepare for the first week of school with your little one. This is truly such a special time for everyone in your house. The first day of school is always exciting, but, there is something extra precious and emotional about dropping your baby off at “the big kid’s school.” We are going to have a fantastic school year and I encourage everyone in your family to enjoy this unforgettable ride…the little moments are often the most precious. Dinner table discussions about what to bring for sharing or what to pack for lunch, as well as, who your child played with at recess and who took them to the office for a Band-Aid remind us all of the innocence of childhood and this magical time that passes in the blink of an eye.
During our first week of school, we will be spending time going over classroom procedures and getting to know each other. This bonding time will help set the foundation for a successful year. There are many dates and details to come, but, we will take it slow and easy for the first few days. Many of your questions will be answered at our upcoming “What to Expect Night.” I look forward to meeting you and beginning our adventures together in TK.
See you soon,
Kristin Dobbs Menicou
