Helpful Hints for Making Sessions Productive:

  • Be prepared at least five minutes before your appointment time. It also helps to know the name of your writing consultant.

  • Bring something to discuss with your writing consultant. For example, even if you are not sure what you are going to write about, you can bring the assignment, questions, and/or topics you might be interested in discussing.

  • If you have a draft, come to the session with a specific question or section of your writing to work on. Since our goal is to help you as a writer, even a single sentence can take up an entire session!

  • Writing consultants do not copy-edit your assignments nor are they responsible for ensuring a good grade, but they can help in identifying and addressing your assignments’ particularities.

  • Your writing consultant may ask you to read your writing aloud and ask you questions about your writing process. Writing consultants do this because it can help identify writing strategies specifically appropriate for you and your writing situation.
