Jennifer John is the Director of Strings Chamber Music at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina. She is the former Violin Teacher and Director of Concertato Strings at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, a residential high school for artistically gifted students. Previously, she served as Professor of Violin at the University of Colorado Boulder and is Faculty Emeritus of the Aspen Music Festival and School. She has also served on the faculties of the Rocky Ridge Institute of Music in Estes Park, Colorado, and the Wintergreen Music Academy.

As an educator, Jennifer John is fully endorsed in Paul Rolland Pedagogy through the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy Society Teaching Endorsement Program and serves as a Mentor for the American String Teachers Association (ASTA). Her dedication to string pedagogy has led her to present master classes, workshops, and lectures throughout the United States and internationally.

Jennifer John has held numerous distinguished positions as a performer, including Concertmaster of the Wichita Symphony, Prague International Chamber Orchestra, Great Lakes Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, and Flint Michigan Symphony. She served for many years as Associate Concertmaster of the Aspen Chamber Symphony. She was also Professor of Violin at Wichita State University and served as First Violinist of the Fairmount String Quartet, as well as a founding member of the Ceruti Quartet in residence at the University of Memphis.

Her additional academic appointments include faculty positions at the University of Memphis, St. Olaf College, Carleton College, and the Flint Institute of Music. She has served as guest faculty at the University of Houston and the Texas Music Festival. As a performer and educator, she has also been a faculty member of the Prague International Chamber Music Festival and the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival.

Jennifer received her Master’s degree in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Paul Kantor. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Paul Kantor, Dorothy DeLay, and Kurt Sassmannshaus. Additional studies include postgraduate work at Yale University and in Lausanne, Switzerland. Other teachers include Lawrence Maves and Francesca Koscielny at the University of Oregon. She also studied the Suzuki method with William Starr in Boulder, Colorado, to further enhance her knowledge as a pedagogue.

As a soloist, Jennifer John has appeared with orchestras and ensembles throughout the country, including the Greenville County Youth Orchestra (GCYO), Young Artist Orchestra, Concerto Strings, Governor’s School ensembles, The Oregon Symphony, Oregon Mozart Players, Prague International Chamber Orchestra, Wichita Symphony, Aurora Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, Boulder Bach Festival, University of Colorado Symphony, Wichita State University Orchestra and Youth Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Players, and the Timberline Symphony of Colorado.

Her publications include an article on Pilates/Ron Fletcher Work in the American String Teachers Association’s National String Journal. She has presented solo recitals, chamber music performances, and workshops at numerous national conferences and institutions, including the 2018 Music Teachers National Association Conference in Orlando, Florida; the 2016 and 2025 American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Conferences in Tampa, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia; the College Music Society National Convention in San Francisco; the University of Indiana; the Midwest Orchestra and Band Clinic in Chicago; MENC in Phoenix; and ASTA conferences in Columbus, Ohio, and Denver, Colorado.

Jennifer’s extensive master class presentations include appearances at The New England Conservatory, University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory of Music, Arizona State University, University of Wisconsin, University of Oklahoma, Medicine Hat College in Canada, Texas Tech University, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Portland, Eugene Youth Symphony, Omaha Conservatory of Music, and the Interlochen Arts Academy.
