About our School Counseling Program

The School Counseling Program goals are achieved through an implementation and integration of four major components.

The first component of Westcliffe's School Counseling Program is the Guidance Curriculum which consists of classroom lessons and small group work. I teach lessons twice month to all classrooms in the school on topics such as character education, social skills, problem-solving, career development and self-understanding. Small groups are also provided for students who need a little extra attention on certain topics.

Individual Planning is the third component of the program in which students are assisted with planning and managing their academic achievement and career development. This will include 5th grade registration for middle school and state-wide testing.

The second component addresses the immediate needs and concerns of the students through Responsive Services. These may include: individual counseling, crisis counseling, agency referral, consultation with parents, teachers and administrators, and support groups.

The final component of the program is System Support in which the counselor is involved in activities to support the school, community relations and professional development.
