Elementary Library Goal: To encourage a love of reading and learning in all students.

Open Monday- Friday

8:00am-3:00pm

The Elementary Library program at Gretna Public Schools' goal is to encourage a love of reading and learning in all students. We work towards this goal in weekly library classes through literacy lessons that introduce students to books & authors and skills lessons that teach students to use both print and online resources. These skills will be practiced through a variety of activities and research projects facilitated by both the librarian and the classroom teachers.

At Palisades Elementary, we have an open check out policy. Students are welcome to check out at any time during the week. They are not restricted to checking out only at their class’ scheduled weekly library time. The quantity and type of library books available to students at any given time is as follows:

Kindergarten: one paperback book before the holiday break, then one hardcover picture book

First Grade: one paperback or hardcover picture book before the holiday break, then two hardcover picture books

Second Grade: two paperback or hardcover books

Third Grade: two paperback or hardcover books

Fourth Grade: two paperback or hardcover books

Fifth Grade: two paperback or hardcover books

All check outs are for a duration of two weeks, although most students will check out at least once weekly.

No fines will be issued for late returns, however if a book is damaged or lost, a replacement fee will be assessed.
