2017-2018
Thanks again to the generous PTA for providing author visits for our students.
3rd grade- Tom Watson of Stick Dog fame, visited courtesy of The Book Stall, a local independent bookstore.
4th grade- Liesl Shurtliff, author of Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, Jack: The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk and Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood conducted writers' workshops for the classes.
5th grade-Liesl Shurtliff returned again to share with the students the Tales Behind Fairytales: a interactive presentation all about fairytales, where they come from, how they change, and what they mean to us today.
2016-2017
This year thanks to the PTA each of the three grade levels have a scheduled author visit.
3rd grade-In November, David Biedrzycki, author and illustrator of the 2016 Monarch award title, Breaking News: Bear Alert, Me and My Dragon books, and Ace Lacewing books will be presenting to the students.
4th grade- In September, Liesl Shurtliff, author of Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, Jack: The True Story of Jack and the Beanstalk and Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood will be conducting writers' workshops for the classes.
5th grade-In October, Kate Hannigan, author of The Detective's Assistant and the Cupcake Cousins books, will be here to present to the students and then work with the classes in writers' workshops. The grade level will also have author C. Alexander London visit in October courtesy of The Book Stall.
2015-2016
4th graders enjoyed the Once Upon a Chapter Tour (courtesy of The Book Stall) on Wednesday, October 14th. The three authors each spoke about the ways that mythology and fairy tales influence their writing.
The third graders enjoyed the visit on October 5th from non-fiction author, Suzanne Slade. Ms. Slade focused her presentation on researching ecosystems since she has written numerous books on the topic that compliment the Next Generation Science Standards.
On May 19, Glen Grove School really enjoyed our visit with author Dan Gutman. Mr. Gutman came in from New Jersey to visit our district's three intermediate schools.
Mr. Gutman presented to each grade level. He also hosted a lunch with 9 raffle winners (3 from each grade level) and a writers' workshop for 30 raffle winners. It was a great day being "weird" with Dan Gutman.
Tuesday, May 19th
Show your school spirt by wearing a Glen Grove School or winning design shirt on the day of the visit. Mr. Gutman will be speaking to each of the grade levels. In addition, he will be hosting a special Writers' Workshop for the essay winners. Plus Mr. Gutman will be eating lunch with 9 lucky essay winners. To be included in the two essay contests, please return your entries (forms can be found on the Events and News page or the Glen Grove School Home Page) to the library by Thursday, May 14th.
On November 13, the third graders enjoyed hosting author, Nancy Krulik, known for her series; Katie Kazoo, George Brown, Class Clown and Magic Bone. She has written over 100 books, three of which were New York Times bestsellers. Check her out at the Katie Kazoo series at http://www.katiekazoo.com

The third and fourth graders had the pleasure of hosting New York Times bestselling author, Amy Krouse Rosenthal on Wednesday, February 12. Ms. Rosenthal is the author of such popular fiction titles as Duck, Rabbit and Little Pea. To learn more about the author, please visit her website.
Non-fiction author Suzanne Slade visited Glen Grove on October 21st. She talked about being perseverant when obtaining your dreams. It took her eight years to become a writer after being an engineer for many years. She also talked about the importance of researching and revising as critical elements when writing. With practice you will become better at what you do.
