As a student in the GBS Woodworking program, I agree to follow all regulations and procedures listed below.
I. Safety is of the utmost importance at all times
Ø Never enter the Woodshop if the instructor is not present.
Ø Never operate any equipment if the instructor is not present.
Ø Never operate any equipment on which you have not been trained.
Ø SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES IN THE SHOP!
Ø Make personal safety, shop use, and clean-up a good habit.
Ø Know the location of fire extinguishers.
Ø Know the procedure for evacuation of the shop.
Ø Notify the instructor of any injury. Even minor scrapes and cuts can become infected quickly.
Ø Compressed air hoses should never be aimed at a person’s skin or eyes. High pressure air is often contaminated with small particles and can cause injury.
Ø Report any unsafe tools, machines, or situations to Mr. Silca immediately.
Ø Dispose of all oily or stained rags in a safety container to prevent spontaneous combustion.
II. Lab appearance, material usage, maintenance, and cleanliness
Ø Choose materials as close to the desired size as possible.
Ø Return useable pieces to the scrap rack – MINIMIZE WASTE!
Ø Store any valuables securely in your locker.
Ø You must supply a combination lock for your locker.
Ø Put away all tools and store your project.
Ø Protect your projects components – avoid nicks, cuts, and dings.
Ø Begin clean-up immediately upon signal.
Ø If you have been assigned a specific shop duty, perform it!
Ø All machines must be cleaned thoroughly to the floor.
Ø Return all hand and portable power tools to their hooks/rack in the tool room.
Ø Close all vises.
Ø Do NOT line up at the door at the end of the period.
Ø Your dismissal will be given by Mr. Silca, not by the bell!
REMEMBER: SAFETY IS ALWAYS THE TOP PRIORITY!
