Gideon Welles School Welcomes Hopewell Grade 5

The faculty of staff of Gideon Welles School are eager to work with our fifth-grade Navigators as they retain their Hopewell Husky pride at GWS. The fifth-grade experience at Gideon Welles will mirror the experience of other fifth-graders in our district at their elementary schools. Fifth graders will follow the traditional elementary school model with one classroom teacher.

Our Middle Education Model (Grade 6)

Gideon Welles School is organized as a sixth grade school incorporating the team format. There are four sixth grade teams. Each sixth grade team consists of approximately 120 students. All teams include a History/Social Studies, Math, English, Foreign Language, and Science teacher. Additionally, all teams are supported by student support personnel including: a school counselor, special education teacher, school psychologist, reading teacher and math specialist.

Eight periods make up each students instructional day at Gideon Welles School. Six periods contain academic courses (History/Social Studies, Math, English [x2], Foreign Language, and Science), one is used for specials (Art, Music, Physical Education [x2] and Academic Skills). Students also attend a Lunch/Homeroom/Break within their teams. STAR at the end of everyday affords students’ academic assistance opportunities and the Exploring the Arts program.
