Community Involvement
Unit 4 - Community Citizenship
Here are some businesses and organizations that help our community.
For the past 60 years, the Heartland United Way has worked diligently to meet the needs of our communities. It is our mission to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. Last year gifts to the United Way enabled the 17 supported agencies to serve over 65,000 people in Hall, Hamilton, Howard, and Merrick counties. What matters to the United Way are the same things that matter to you, Children, Families and our Communities.
You've seen--The Salvation Army red kettle at Christmas. Though this symbol appears for just a short while, its impact extends far beyond the holiday season. We serve the homeless and the hungry through the Meals Program, the homeless shelter, disaster relief, plus food and clothing vouchers. Our Thrift Store serves thousands annually by offering reasonably priced merchandise. Stop by the Grimminger Center at 818 West Third Street and learn how you might volunteer.
