What's Your Angle? - In this lesson, students will use addition or subtraction to find the measure of two adjacent angles and determine the measure of an unknown angle. This lesson plan includes a formative assessment.
Number and Operations - Fractions - This lesson plan includes an skills-based and problem-based assessment task.
Marshmallow Math - In this lesson, students are physically engaged in measuring distances of tossed marshmallows to the nearest 1/2 foot. Using their measurements, they will represent the data on a line plot and then solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of mixed numbers. This is a fun lesson that motivates students to become excited about the difficult world of fractions. This lesson plan includes a formative assessment.
Line Plots through the Grades - Students will explore constructing and interpreting line plots with whole number and fractional scales. Students will then use data from line plots to solve onestep and multi-step problems building on previously learned strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. This lesson plan includes a formative assessment.
Give an Inch, Take a Foot - Students practice measuring techniques by measuring different objects and distances around the classroom. They practice using different scales of measurement in metric units and estimation. Also, students learn how measurement is used in engineering and why accuracy is important to the design of new products. Assessment is included with this lesson plan.
Georgia Milestones EOG Content Weights - Grade-level charts provide the approximate weights for domains on each Georgia Milestones Assessment in grade 4. Each Georgia Milestones Assessment is aligned to the state-adopted content standards.
Engage NY Module 4 - This site includes an end-of-module (unit) assessment for fraction equivalence, ordering, and operations.
Engage NY Module 3 - This site includes an end-of-module (unit) assessment for multiplication and division.
Engage NY Module 2 - This site includes an end-of-module (unit) assessment for measurement conversions.
Engage NY Module 1 - This site includes the document of the end-of-unit assessment.
Edible Angles - This lesson is designed to help students understand that when an angle is decomposed into parts, the measure of the parts is equal to the whole measure of the original angle. By the end of this lesson, students should have a firm understanding of this standard. This lesson includes a formative assessment.
Draw a Blueprint of Your House - This lesson will help your students learn about area and perimeter while imagining and drawing a blueprint of their dream house floor plan. It takes you through steps to access their prior knowledge of area and perimeter and builds up to having them make their own blueprint on graph paper. They will have so much fun drawing and creating their blueprint they will forget that they are actually learning how to find area and perimeter. This lesson includes an assessment.
Comparing and Ordering Decimals - In this cooperative learning activity, students will have five sets of decimal cards to sort and put in order - least to greatest. The lesson starts with a short whole group activity and then breaks off in to structured groups. The teacher is free to interact with each of the groups and monitor progress, participation, and understanding. This lesson plan includes an assessment.
Can You Compare and Find the Missing Number in an Equation? - Students will be able to compare and solve equations using comparative relational thinking. This lesson only addresses addition, not the other operations. Solving these equations will require the students to mentally evaluate to determine if it is true or false. The students will also determine the unknown number in some equations. This lesson plan includes an assessment.
Buy a House - Students will be given specifications (specs) about a house and have to determine which house would be the best one for the client according to the families needs.
Angle Your Way Around - In this lesson students will watch a short video on angles, be introduced to the protractor and benchmark angles, practice reading angles properly, make estimates on angle degrees, measure angles precisely, and participate in a small group activity using their new skills. This lesson includes a formative assessment.
Amazing Race- Elapsed Time - In this lesson, which focuses specifically on the elapsed time portion of the standard, students work in small groups in a "race" to solve real world problems involving time. An assessment is included with this lesson plan.
ABC Symmetry - Students will explore the concept of line symmetry in this lesson. Students will explore two-dimensional pictures and decide whether or not each image has symmetry. Students will also fold pre-cut capital letters to decide whether or not each letter has symmetry. An assessment is included with this lesson plan.
Aaron and Anya's Quilt Challenge - In this situational story, Aaron and Anya find a large piece of brightly colored fabric. They decide to cut it into squares to make a quilt. Students will find the area of the fabric by multiplying two digits by two digits. They will explore factors as they figure out the largest quilt square that can be cut for 25 students. There will be fabric left over; students will have to determine and justify remainders based on several different scenarios. Finally, students will create their own quilt square using grid paper. An assessment is included with this lesson plan.
"Chips" ahoy! - This lesson will help children recognize, continue, and create number patterns, as well as find the rules for the patterns. The activities progress from concrete to semi-concrete to abstract. An assessment is included with this lesson plan.
