Exam Briefing

  1. School Uniform: Neat school uniform must be worn during all examinations. You will be sent home to change if you do not comply with this instruction. You may need a GIS sweater or cardigan, in case you feel cold (No jackets or hoods).
  2. Bags: Bags are not allowed in the examination rooms; please leave them at home or in your lockers.
  3. Reporting time: Arrive twenty minutes BEFORE the exam start time. Wait in the designated area. Please keep quiet and listen for announcements. Make sure you check the seating plan(s) for quarantine and alternative arrangements. (Please note that if your Science practical is scheduled later than 12.30 pm then you need to be in school and supervised from 12.40 pm onwards.)
  4. Candidate number: Please remember your candidate number – you will need it to find your seat in the exam room. Seating plans will be made available prior to the exam day. Also the rooms used for your exams may vary. Please ensure that you are familiar with your location prior to the exam day.
  5. Stationery: You are responsible for bringing the correct equipment to each of your examinations. Please use a small, transparent pencil case (not patterned) or plastic bag. Use dark blue or black ink – NOT light blue or purple. Use a sharp HB pencil for drawing and multiple choice papers. Don’t forget a ruler, clean eraser, compass, protractor and calculator without cover. Do not bring correction fluid or highlighter pens.
  6. Answer Booklets: We are using answer booklets so there is no rough paper. Put ALL working on your answer paper – it may gain you marks if your main answer is wrong. Anything you do not wish to be marked should be crossed out with a single neat line.
  7. Dictionaries: For IGCSE exams, simple translation dictionaries may be allowed but must be approved by the teacher before the exams start. A normal English dictionary which explains the meaning of words is NOT allowed. NO dictionaries are allowed for any language papers.
  8. Water: No food or drink is allowed other than water in clear plastic bottles with no labels. Please keep bottles on the floor.
  9. DO NOT CHEAT: “If you try to use any unfair practice or break the rules in any way, you could be disqualified from all your subjects.” After two years hard work, it is not worth the risk. Exam conditions start when you enter the exam room and end when you leave. Remember to quietly move away from the exam room after your exam – others may still be working. Do NOT talk outside the exam room before or after exams. Do not attempt to communicate with or disturb other candidates once you have entered the examination room. If you have any concerns, raise your hand to talk to an invigilator.
  10. Invigilators: You must follow the instructions of the invigilator at all times.
  11. Electronic devices: Do NOT bring mobile phones, mp3/4 players, iPODs, watches with internet access or any other electronic devices to exams. They are NOT allowed in the exam room. If you bring any such device to school, put it in your locker as it is not permitted in the exam room. If your mobile phone rings while you are in the exam room, it is considered malpractice and will be reported to the exam board. They may disqualify you from ALL the exams that you are sitting. The school will not take responsibility for your mobile phone at any time.
  12. Y9 & Y10: There is no study leave for IGCSE and you must register as usual; if your exam is in the morning, you will attend normal lessons after a short break; if the exam starts at 12:00, you may ask your teachers for permission to miss period 6 so that you can get an early lunch at 11:30. You should return to class after the exam.
  13. Year 11: Year 11 students may go home after their exams but you will need your photo-card to show to security guards if you leave before 2:20 pm. Do not lose your card. If you forget your card you will not be allowed to leave until 2:20 pm.
