Class Policy:

Student’s artwork will be graded based on their personal growth in collaboration with the given rubric guidelines per assignment. Successful completion of the project requirements, art history worksheets, creativity, EFFORT, reflection essays and appropriate participation are all factors that will be incorporated into each project grade.


YOU ARE TO BE PREPARED FOR CLASS ON A DAILY BASIS (pencil, eraser and sketchbook).


New for 2022-2023: Any student who is caught vaping will not be allowed on class field trips.


Sketchbook:

Students are required to obtain a sketchbook by the first Monday of class and maintain it throughout the year. More details on this requirement may be found on the separate sketchbook handout.


Assignments:

Projects will be given due notice both verbally and on the board. Assignments are to be due on time. Reaction papers on current events in the art world will be given periodically throughout the school year.

Grade Weighting:


Drawing & Painting, All Adobe Courses and Ceramic:

Projects = 50%

100 points accumulation:

Worksheets - 20 points

Designated Rubric Criteria Followed -80 points

Sketchbook & Art History notes = 22%

Self-reflections Essays, Reports, Tests, Written Art History Worksheets = 23%

Verbal Appropriate Participation = 5%


College Art: Adelphi University- 3 college credits

Studio Projects = 70%

Sketchbook = 15%

Quizzes = 10%

Critiques and Appropriate Class Participation = 5%


PLTW DDP/IED: Rochester Institute of Technology- 3 college credits

Classwork/ Projects = 40%

Engineering Notebook, Participation and Homework = 30%

Quizzes/Test = 30%

Discipline:

Any inappropriate behavior that is in violation of the student handbook will be handled in accordance to the discipline guidelines set forth by administration. Disruptive actions in the education process such as calling out, interrupting the teacher or a participating fellow peer, ridiculing a peer’s comments or artwork, destroying a fellow student’s artwork, inappropriate language and/or behavior will not be tolerated in any manner. Such negative and disruptive educational and bullying behaviors will result in a removal from the classroom, detentions, disciplinary write-ups, and parental contact/ meetings if required.


Attendance:

Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class period. Three or more unexcused tardies will result in a write-up. Full absences will be handled in accordance to the school’s guidelines and may results in the loss of credit for the course (see student handbook for more information).
