PKD's famous VALIS experience (Vast Active Living Intelligence System), a religious or past or alternate reality event, occurred in February and March of 1974, or 2-3-74, while he lived in Fullerton, CA. The cartoonist and underground comix writer R. Crumb described the event in Issue 17 of Weirdo Magazine from 1986. Crumb's version is well researched and as clear as anything else (including Dick's own writings, which are longer and more profound) about what happened to PKD and what it meant to him.
