Shelly Neer

Hi!  My name is Shelly Neer! I am super excited to be teaching 5th grade!  This will be my second year at McSpedden.  I will be teaching reading, writing, and social studies.  I am so proud to be part of such a supportive school and community and I am looking forward to meeting my amazing students!

This will be my 23rd year in education.  Previously, I taught PE, 1st grade, and was also a Reading Specialist.  I love children’s books and I love teaching reading!

I was born and raised in Texas!  I am a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan!  I love football Sundays!  I did have the opportunity to move to Florida for 1 ½ years and fell in love with the Sunshine State!  Florida is one of my favorite places to visit! I attended the University of North Texas and graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.  I worked in early childhood education while going to college.  

I have a super, awesome 13 year old named Broden.  He is the joy of my life and we love going on adventures!  He will be in the 8th grade and attends FISD.  One of our favorite things to do is going to the drag races!  We feel the “need for speed!”  I also love boating and being around water, whether it’s at the pool, lake or beach!  I also enjoy hanging out with family and friends, watching live music, sitting by a fire, going to the movies, working out and taking LOTS of pictures!  Taking pictures is definitely my hobby!

My passion is giving children tools to make positive choices, be amazing problem solvers, and find a life-long love of learning.  I hope this year will be filled with amazing learning and lots of fun and laughter!  I can’t wait to meet all the amazing families and sweet kiddos!
