I am Heather Burdette Quinn and this is my ninth year teaching eighth grade English in Franklin County. I grew up in Bedford County and attended Staunton River High School and the Roanoke Valley Governor's School, then earned a bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in education from the University of Virginia. I love teaching English because I enjoy helping students broaden their horizons through literature and express themselves in essays, stories, and poems. Other than reading and writing, I enjoy cooking, crafting, listening to good music (especially when it's performed live), and traveling to new places. I live in Rocky Mount with my husband, Josh - he's a Virginia Tech alumni so our house can get very lively on football game days!
I met author Gary Paulsen at the Virginia State Reading Association conference in Spring 2011. He is a HERO of mine for writing books that so many kids love to read!
Author Maggie Stiefvater (Shiver, the Scorpio Races, The Raven Boys) and I at VSRA 2012 - she is one of my favorite YA authors and such a kind person!
