Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Modal FEA simulations have been carried out
Concept generation, we have three preliminary concept sketches.
Added method of physically testing vibrations to risk reduction efforts.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Double the simulated first mode natural frequency from 14 to 28 Hz by iterating through slightly different geometries.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Brainstorm concepts for angular DoFs over the break. (All)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
We were unable to meet with our sponsor in the previous week.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Meeting with instructor: 6 December, 2018
Visit the operating room and speak with OR personnel. A small model may be beneficial for the appropriate personnel to asses for potential concerns.
Response: Our sponsor is helping us set this up and we expect to visit in early January.
Develop simple, small scale prototypes of the 5 DoFs.
Response: This shall be carried out prior to the fabrication and assembly of the completed project.
Vibration measurement: measure the magnitude of displacement using a laser pointer and an optical sensor.
Response: We are planning to measure the displacements via accelerometer and a double integrator circuit. Our proposed method allows us to easily measure the displacements in three directions.
Instructor e-mail: 16 December, 2018
Build a zero DoF structure with the payload on it, use this with the test bed for an early estimate on the prevalence of vibration.
Response: We will consider this idea moving forward.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
None to report.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Displacements due to vibration.
Effective counterbalancing for necessary DoFs (almost certainly needed for rotational and vertical DoFs).
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Operating room constraints
Schedule
Shortly after we return from break we aim to have concept designs done in CAD.
We also need to determine exactly what method we are going to use to measure displacements and properly execute said method.

Progress on Report and Webpage
We are trying to keep the website up to date during the break so as to not fall behind.
