156A Week 10
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Current team has completed assembling two working individual sections of the snake and are working to test them individually for consistency.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Got up to speed on current status of project and read the code and governing equations.
Assigned individual components for each team member to analyze and began research on those parts.
Worked with previous team to learn fabrication process for one segment.
Brainstormed risk reduction tests and different experiment designs.
Took inventory of parts.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Individual Component Analysis research: IMUs (Torin)
Individual Component Analysis research: Twisted string actuation (Carver)
Individual Component Analysis research: Motor ( Yuan)
Individual Component Analysis research: Spring (Byron)
Risk Reduction (all members)
Finalize experiment setup for risk reduction
Research expected risk reduction performance
Run risk reduction experiment
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Our main objective was to meet with the current team and familiarize ourselves with the overall design, individual components, and fabrication process, which we have done.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Prof Gravish gave us direction on risk reduction test on Tues 3/5. Suggested isolating the performance of the motor and testing its performance in handling a larger load. We have been working to design a specific procedure for this risk reduction test.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Consistently soldering close to 100 joints per segment will be a large challenge throughout the project. We must ensure solid connections, avoid short circuits, and be sure not to allow any circuit boards to overheat or break during process.
Much of the Arduino and Matlab code prewritten for this project is uncommented, so troubleshooting code issues will be difficult.
Limited space in CAD design makes it difficult to fit boards and wires in part
Resources or Information Required but not Available
We need to research soldering techniques and methods of making this process easier.
Schedule
