Project Management
Guidelines for Weekly Progress Reports
Weekly Progress Reports (see sidebar), the Gantt chart, and this Project Management page should be printed out before meetings with the sponsor and instructor.
All team members should be able to explain all items on the progress report.
Place a "*" at the beginning of the title of the active week Progress Report (see * in sidebar).
Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Snake Robot consisting of 8 Modular, Multi-Modal Segments that are continuously flexible. Robot must produce “sidewinding” movement similar to that of a snake. Primary objective is for the snake to make different shapes, such as an ‘S’, on command
Second Priority Objectives
Develop an intuitive user interface for the users to control which shape the snake makes
Other Constraints and Issues
Must build off of previous prototype
Should achieve shape control
Easily attachable/detachable segments
Medical and Control compliances must be met
Ensure that industrial standards are also met
Environmental concerns: remote degradation
WOW Design Solution
Implement IMUs which are already included in robot design. Use the real-world position found from the IMU to improve the position control feedback of the system
Risk Reduction Strategy
Work with previous team to build the 2nd segment multi-modal segment from existing parts:
Hardware Components:
90 RPM micro gear motor
Twisted strings
Motor caps
Acrylic disks
Springs
Electrical Components:
Motor driver
Arduino pro mini
IMU.
Intermediate Milestones
Identifying meaningful intermediate milestones is a critical for effective project management. Together with your sponsor identify such milestones, and specify specific performance requirements you aim to meet at each milestone.
Week 9: 1 Segments Built
Week 10: Control 1 segments and finish risk reduction
