156B Week 3
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Nearly finalized conceptual design. Still need to work out loose ends regarding base plate material and contact stress of roller assembly
Will meet with sponsor on Thursday with finalized conceptual design with intention of receiving the go-ahead to being purchasing materials
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Hand calculations for bolt slip; confirmed required bolt size, grade, and quantity to sustain load without bolt slipping
CAD and FEA of baseplate design
CAD and FEA of adjusted single roller assembly
Adjusted testbed assembly to resolve large stress at bolt connection of diagonal supports
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Source materials for baseplate, source a viable load cell with signal conditioning, both before Thursday meeting (Matthiew)
Contact Roller Bearing Company to resolve questions about contact stress and infinite life of roller bearing (Bryant)
Modify roller assembly center rod to sustain the max 5000 lbf on the right face (Josiah)
Potentially source second set of springs for lower load range, determine how to achieve fixed end condition for springs (Ian)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Email (4/12)
Will manually adjust if maximum displacement increases past 25%
+/- 15% load variation is acceptable range
calculated load variation of current design and confirmed that it met the requirements
Motor is available to be brought to campus
Sponsor will arrange available dates
11' of 6061-T6 I-beam available for use
Incorporated I-beams into base design to reduce cost
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
In person (4/9)
Family of springs
Currently looking into viable springs for lower range (500-2500 lb)
