156B Week 2
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Received good feedback from ATA regarding current design: need to finalize design for base plate and run modal analysis to check natural frequency
Making design adjustments in order to reduce cost to be within budget
Will meet with ATA again next week to present analysis on whole structure and move forward from there
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Modeled entire system in SolidWorks and ran FEA on the yoke roller, test bed, and spring plate
Hand analysis for major components to validate system along with CAD
Sourced all parts for the iteration of the design
Held design review meeting with ATA and received good feedback
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Adjust yoke roller design from two rollers down to a single roller to reduce moment and reduce cost (Josiah)
Design base plate from provided I-beams and run structural and modal FEA (Matthiew)
Assist in base plate design, calculate for bolt slipping in new yoke roller design, modal analysis on bottom spring plate and load pin (Bryant)
Adjust spring fatigue calculations for pinned end conditions, research how to achieve fixed end condition. Assist in sourcing parts for single roller design. (Ian)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
In-person meeting at ATA (Thurs 3/5)
Try to stay within budget, but if absolutely necessary, more funding can be provided
In process of reducing size and complexity of yoke roller and guide to reduce cost
Run modal analysis on frame to ensure natural frequency is at least 10x more than the motor frequency
In process of designing base plate, will run FEA on design when done
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
In person meeting (Wed 3/4)
Consider family of springs to account for various ranges of input force
In process of considering separate springs
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Feedback form from Risk Reduction Presentation
Explain general design more thoroughly in the beginning so that everyone understands exactly how the fatigue tester works
Risks and Areas of Concern
Budget constraints and further reducing cost
Simplifying yoke roller assembly to reduce cost and to help with machinability
Resources or Information Required but not Available
none
Schedule
Complete design of base plate and FEA by this Wednesday
