156B Week 7
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Frame currently 75% complete, will be completed by Thursday May 18
Working on LabVIEW- integration of thermistors, load cell and RPM VI (waiting to hear back from LabVIEW rep and install specific temp sensor software onto school computers)
Fabrication of Water brake in progress- most of the bigger components completed (rotor, housing)
Water pump to be tested this week
Engine dropped off- engine frame to be welded and completed by the end of the week
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Progress on all manufacturing items
All water system components have been ordered or bought
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Have a working VI (Chinaar) - aim for end of Week 7; realistically mid week 8
Have water system integrated into the frame (Cassandra)
Machine smaller components for frame and radiator fittings (Cassandra)
Manufacture trunnions and shaft for water brake (Justin)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
sponsor meeting 5/13 (in person)
Try to obtain a safe fuel tank- major safety hazard
Powder coat the frame- get it done free through the team
get team to help with manufacturing basic components
make sure to get Triton Racing members to download the 6-month trial of LabVIEW if they'll be working with they dyno
Engine
drop in by end of the day 5/13
stock exhaust on its way
stock sensors in engine harness should be good to go
need to buy
Battery (Chinaar to contact potential sponsors: Battery Mart and Odyssey)
bolts, washer, nuts (Luke to find existing items that the team has in project room)
Marshalls list of items: ask for donations of stuff when you go to buy parts
powder coating the frame
Daniel (sponsor) to talk to powdercoating sponsor guy for opportunity and get details on delivery and completion date
waterbrake
get rotor anodized: get it back Friday, week 7
ASK PROFS ABOUT: running the dyno in the project room (since exhaust vents are there)
fuel tank
get fuel cells instead if a sponsorship opportunity is available
worry a bit about the fire hazard (major safety concern)
ASK PROFS ABOUT: what Rob needs to do for final presentation and everything else
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Meeting 5/10: in person with Prof T and Pedro; online call with Prof. S
Water brake
profs not a fan of threaded aluminum
heli-coil inserts
or holes in the bolt
Budget
was not updated for 5/10 meeting, make sure to add it in
LabVIEW
Prof. Califon is experienced
contact labVIEW rep first though
Report Review
Project Deliverables
include the User Manual
Project Requirements
designate sponsor primary and secondary requirements to create hierarchy
Key Components
introduce new subsection on Cooling System/Radiators
insert thermoanalysis to this part
for functional requirements for all parts
put it in bullet points (easier to read)
Frame and Water Brake section
first talk about requirements
(frame only): define and distinguish fixed and loading points of FEA analysis in text form
Analysis
include more anaysis
for Water Brake: calculate the load based on flow and engine power to match theory with tests
Standards
explain why specific standards are relevant to the dyno project
Chapter 4
hoping that more of the design will be covered in this section
make sure this is good!
GENERAL
annotate figures
fix the pixelated pictures (likely due to them being drawings now)
reference figures in the text
include more figures in some sections too
ALL WRITTEN NOTES ON REPORT DRAFT HAVE BEEN UPLOADED TO DRIVE FOR REFERENCE
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Still waiting for feedback from Proof of Concept presentation
Risks and Areas of Concern
Fuel tank hazard- don't have enough in our budget for a fuel cell (would need large discount or donation)
Having enough testing time
how does this issue factor into presentation and report? (Ask professors)
already over budget; any errors that would require replacement parts cuts into Triton Racing's account even more
Resources or Information Required but not Available
DAQ assist does not work with myRIO- contacted LabVIEW rep about this issue
need to get LabVIEW on Chinaar's computer
Schedule
Prepare for presentation next week
Week 8: begin assembly (original plan); current progress looks to start assembly mid-week 8
Testing time (week 9 and 10) might be shortened depending on progress
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
On budget (initial budget $2,200)
Total spent so far $2180.23
We will be over budget - need to purchase $150.69
Total amount spent will be $2,330.92
Progress on Report and Webpage
see professor comments (above) regarding work that needs to be done for report draft due at end of week 7
