156B Week 10
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Water system assembly in progress
attempting to complete all manufacturing by the end of week 10 (Just a couple difficult items left)
load cell calibration and electronics wiring setup in progress
Accomplishments from Previous Week
completed manufacturing of many small parts
Mounted all frame components together
mounted engine onto the frame
finish machining tight tolerance water brake shaft
water brake shaft pressed into rotor (0.003" heatshrink-fit)
finished machining pockets in both stators
tapped pipe threads and Installed fittings in both stators
shaft slip fit side bearings pressed into one trunion, and into one end of the bearing block
completed load cell assembly and mounted water brake (ready to calibrate load cell)
welded radiator fittings and mounting tabs
Got all 4 temp sensors to work on myRIO
installed safety panels
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
machine bearing block shaft - Tom, Luke
run the engine under no load to confirm its working in the current setup - Triton Racing Team
calibrate the loadcell - Chinaar
create overall Bill Of Materials Drawings - Justin
finalize and assemble all relevant engineering drawings to go into the report - Luke
design and fabricate electronics case - Chinaar, Luke
finish machining driveshaft coupler (add 1/4" keyway with a broaching tool) - Justin
redesign and machine engine output shaft coupler - Luke, Justin
get San Diego Engine Balancing to balance our rotor and driveshaft to either the G16 or G6.3 @ 6000RPM spec - Luke, Justin
Assemble radiators onto the frame - Luke
Assemble, plumb, and test water system - Luke, Cassandra
Solve RPM sensor mounting and trigger wheel - Luke, Chinaar
get grease for water-brake trunion cavities - Luke
Mount control panel electronics and dyno controls - Luke, Brad, Chinaar
buy more thumb screws for safety panels and add foam tape to prevent rattling- Luke
buy a motorcycle battery - Luke
Create user manual modeled after existing water brake documentation - Luke
fabricate driveshaft safety ring, sheet metal brackets for gas tank, battery, and other misc items - Cassandra
Have a successful presentation at the FSAE Triton Racing Team GBM on Monday night - All members
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Meeting 6/4 - In Person (Faculty sponsor not present; Triton Racing student sponsor (Daniel) present; and MAE 156B team)
Final project presentation will be at the FSAE Triton Racing Team GBM on Monday night
Daniel to help with manufacturing the driveshaft coupler and finish the water brake shaft - done
work with power train team to get engine running and mount controls
Luke and Justin to find a sponsor to balance driveshaft and rotor assembly
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Meeting 5/31 - In person (all Professors, TA, and team members except Justin present)
Give feedback to NI representative after the project to help gain additional sponsorship opportunities for the Triton Racing team
Assigned to Chinaar (email NI representative our final report and other documentation when the quarter is over)
Focus on precision rather than accuracy as a deliverable for this project
The racing team will do a comparison against a verifiable, high quality dynamometer at a later date.
Get more manufacturing help from Tom
coordinated with Tom to help machine our bearing block shaft
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Brandon from the OX1 cart team helped us with a bit of fabrication in the shop on 6/4/17
Risks and Areas of Concern
Transferring testing and calibration responsibility to Triton Racing
Enough time to create a high quality operation manual (since testing will not be complete)
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Turnaround time for balancing rotor and drive shaft
