156B Week 3
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Frame is ready to be fabricated- materials purchased 4/19 by Sponsor (Triton Racing)
Ready to purchase load cell, pump, water brake material, frame material also on 4/19
Water brake design almost ready for machining
Safety analysis brainstormed and almost complete.
Begin fabrication of frame and subframe on Wednesday. Welding to commence over the weekend.
Impact on Society brainstormed.
Considered minimized scope: eliminating electronic control
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Pump, load cell, damper chosen
Frame model updated and complete
Water brake model updated
Finalized design of entire system
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Make frame thicker (1/8th) for better support from steel: Luke
Place handles on top plane of subframe : Luke
Brad to push engine ability to be mounted to subframe and frame in 2 weeks: Greg/Brad/Powertrain Team
Fabricate frame- Chinaar/Luke
Find RPM sensor to be used by 4/19 - Chinaar
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor meeting 4/15 (in person)
Make frame thicker (1/8th)
Make sure that the engine is working and plumbed by the time we are ready to test (5 weeks out from now)
By 2 weeks from now: engine needs to be able to be mounted onto the frame
By a month: engine needs to be fully operational in frame
Do a safety analysis of system by Wednesday
Driveshaft
Buy or build?
Welding might warp the tube a bit
Look into telescoping driveshaft for adjustability
Possibly use extended spline for adjustability
Submersible pump - cheaper
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Reduce scope of project- met with sponsor and team to discuss potential scope changes (4/15)
no electronic control
only mechanical components
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
On Design Proposal Presentation (4/12): comments via form
Better explanation of project and use of visuals
Explain specific components and their purpose better next time
Include more graphs and figures to explain
Risks and Areas of Concern
Incorporating automatic control by project deadline
Don't know if we will be sponsored by National Instruments yet for LabVIEW
If project scope is reduced, we don't need to consider this yet.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Schedule
Finish design by 4/23
Start build 4/21
Start with subframe and frame
Then water brake
Then remaining component integration (water system and sensors)
Proof of Concept presentations 5/3
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Of $2200 budget
$300 to be spent on frame material and gas (4/19)
$200 on load cell and amplifier (4/19)
$200 to be spent on remaining smaller parts for frame build
Remaining budget: $1500 (4/19)
