Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Met with sponsor Jae Kim at the Jacobs Medical Center
Learned about the project challenge and scope
Tested current laryngoscope blades on fake infant intubation heads
Walked through the NICU to see current patients, with the smallest weight being 700 g
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Met with group members to get acquainted and determine availability
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Brainstorm solutions to laryngoscope blade and ramp designs - Everyone
Schedule meeting for next week - Emeline
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Comments from Jae Kim (Week 9): pitched his idea/objectives of improving entire intubation process for infants
Showed us basics of instruments we’d essentially be building/improving
Gave us a demonstration with laryngoscope, tube, and baby training mannequin
Clarified what we should focus on in terms of ramp or laryngoscope/tube
Ramp is the “easier” objective, but extremely important in improving visualization
Laryngoscope/tube modification is more difficult and time consuming, but “more marketable”
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Comments from Dr. Gravish (Week 9): Find out from sponsor how testing and training is done; How are we going to evaluate how well our device works? What is the rubric for how well we address the needs?
Actions taken to address these comments: Asked sponsors what they define as a successful intubation and what would be defined as success
Answer: The procedure would be considered successful if intubation took only one attempt in the shortest time possible without perforating the throat area
