IN PERSON (4/8)
Increase size of tunnel to 1.5m x .3m x .3m
Purchased 1.5m x.3m pieces of acrylic for walls
Consider funneling entrance for laminar flow
currently studying and considering designs for this airflow chamber
Consider not making compartments, maybe just grooves along floor
focus on tunnel and airflow chamber first, and test before using compartments
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
4/8 in person after design proposal presentation
Acquire fruit flies and test their reactions to CO2
If needed Tom can help polish and cut acrylic
the acrylic was precut and gluing of the box is being assisted by Tom
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Via Design proposal comments 4/8/15
Instead of square tube with circle cutouts, why not circle tube
machining feasibility, also compartmentalization
Increase entrance length so there is a longer portion with developing flow (more uniform profile)
What will be done about flies that just sit at the entrance?
Risks and Areas of Concern
Airflow Chamber
design
machining
CO2 entry
effects on flies, speed of chamber flooding
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Schedule
Consider spraying projection goo onto acrylic (outside or inside)
Assemble tunnel
Construct ceiling latch
Begin purchasing material for airflow chamber
