Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Reworking on Femap analysis to improve structural stiffness
In order to increase stiffness to meet the minimum stiffness requirement, mutiple diagonal cross beams must be added to the structure.
Researching on different pipe fittings as well as how each diagonal supporting beam put together.
Researched and contacted different places about anodizing, pipes, pipe fittings, etc.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Purchased two 24ft (7.3m) tubes of 0.058" wall thickness at 1.5" and 1.375" diameter
Tested prototype tubes but the two telescoping legs galled together.
Reworked our Femap model and the stiffness
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Performing FEMAP analysis (David)
Test the legs with the new collar from Mcmaster (Steven)
Test torque rating of hinges to make sure they are strong enough (Alex)
Place an order for the final materials for the aluminum tubing (Alex)
Place an order for all the clamps of each size (Alex)
Designs for rungs and base ratchet strap structure. (Team)
Purchase ratchet straps from home depot (Kwan)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Suggested even hard anodized will not completely prevent galling
Use bushing inserts with larger pipe to pipe clearance to help prevent the problem of galling.
Suggested that company "Igus" is a good place to purchase bushing
Use bigger diameter pipe to increase stiffness
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Suggested to use Stainless steel but we will ultimately stick with using Aluminum tube
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Finding the bushing inserts that will fit our pipe sizes will be challenging, we might need to machine the bushing out ourselves.
Without a final Femap anaylzed structure, it is difficult to determine how the diagonal supporting beam are going to be placed
