Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Penguin 3.0 has been printed
Car 2.0 CAD has been refined and OXO lid has been implemented
Penguin 4.0 has two different lid options
OXO lid
Twist-lock lid without the penguin face (just a circle). Instead, raised tabs are used to help rotate the lid. This was to make it more intuitive to use and allowed the user to place the lid in any arbitrary manner
Still looking for other solutions to have an affordable silicone suction cup (per request of sponsor)
Contacted SolidConcepts
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Penguin 3.0 was 3D printed and tested
Good lid seal
Easier to turn lid, but not as intuitive as desired. User is forced to place lid on the tray a very specific way
Screw-on suction cup with teflon tape works
Suction cup is a little hard to release
Penguin 4.0 CAD with two different lid options
Added a slot extrusion to test viability of slide in suction cup instead of screw-on suction cup and the possibility of having two suction cups to help prevent sliding and rotation of the baby tray while affixed to the table
Pretty much finalized most of the design aspects
Car 2.0 CAD has been re-dimensioned and polished with OXO lid
Ready to 3D print using printer on campus
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Emmanuel: Update Penguin CAD design according to feedback from sponsor and design firm people
Ebrahim: Update Car CAD design according to feedback from sponsor and design firm people
Jinfeng: Continue looking into suction cup alternatives
Nima: Keep in contact with SolidConcepts for final high resolution 3D print

Wants to continue working on both the Penguin and Car
Believes both hold potential to bring to market
Insisted on finding an affordable silicone suction cup solution
Gave feedback on car design
Scheduled meeting with Eurostyle design firm and D&D for 9th week to get feedback

Good presentation, good CAD, and good delivery of presentation
Did you discuss with sponsor the option of non-flat lids?
Thinks the top should be easier to take on and off. Lid must be 100% spillproof
Suggestion to think through the use of the product including flat top
If the purpose of the flat top is to draw, then try drawing. Will paper go over it? Will the child directly draw on the lid?
Could you add to entertainment features and value of the product?
It is hard to release suction cup
Consult injection molding expert to review designs to see if they are feasible and cost effective.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Second suction cup sounds like a feasible idea
Puzzle top for lid
Test suction cup on different material tabletops
Recesses in twist-lock lid instead of tabs
Use lever to release suction cup
Risks and Areas of Concern
Being able to focus and complete a design
Attention is spread thin between both the Car and Penguin
Functional changes affect aesthetics slightly and is hard to come to a good middle ground between form and function
Still need to find affordable silicone suction cup because sponsor has insisted on this option
Resources or Information Required but not Available
How are some companies like Prince LionHeart able to mold bottles out of silicone at an affordable price?
Is there a difference in molding suction cups out of silicone versus molding other objects?
Schedule
Describe upcoming milestone
Update Gantt chart.
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
$322.65 spent, $677.35 remaining
Outsourced final 3D print will cost about $400
Progress on Report and Webpage
2nd Draft of report is done. Need to add photos of hardware and pictures/analysis of final product design
