Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Have 3 different types of suction cups
New CAD model for both Penguin (round, interlock) and Car (abstract, snap on) shapes with full shape and suction cup integration
Research on injection molding
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Jinfeng went to see suction cup supplier in Irvine and bought suction cups
Penguin CAD is ready for 3D print
2 degree draft angles
Uniform wall thickness of 1.5 mm (minimum for 3D printer, it needs 5 layers of resin or ~1.25 mm)
Car CAD is in nearing 3D print ready
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Jinfeng: Research possibilities of cheaper suction cups (different supplier, material, method, etc.)
Ebrahim: Finish up Car CAD and try to get Car CAD printed
Nima: Print Penguin prototype
Emmanuel: Assemble Penguin prototype (sanding edges, getting suction cup to fasten, perhaps painting if time available)
Everyone: Work on Report Draft

Pleased with butterfly and car shapes (abstract, snap on lid)
Decided to work on car shape first
Discussed various options for implementing lid on the car
Deadline for Penguin prototype with everything on Monday of 6th week
Expecting Penguin prototype CAD for next meeting

Suggested exaggerating features on car to create more eating space
Look at Target or Amazon for children's car toys
Look at ribs and fillets, etc. by taking apart plastic parts
General discussion on lid design
One material vs. two materials
Benchmarking of existing lid designs
Pros and cons
Suggestion of looking at Thomas Register (Thomasnet.com) for suction cups
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Lid design for snap on
How to prototype?
Less high risk: Will the suction cups fasten onto 3D printed threads, or will we have to use machine shop?
