Overview

There are many different types of clubs that offer winter tennis. Below are a few general guidelines along with specific locations in the Brookfield area you can choose from. You will also find on this page recommendations for which area clubs to join. If you are currently at a different club, there is definitely no problem at all; playing in winter is key. The options below, however, are what the Junior Lancers Tennis group is recommending.

Tennis-only

This type of club focuses solely on tennis, and does not offer fitness or other activities. The positive is that this type of club has only one focus; tennis. A tennis-only club is also the most economical option. The only option in the Milwaukee area for tennis only used to be Moorland Park in New Berlin. Moorland Park was staffed with excellent instructors and had group/private lessons available as well as USTA and other tournaments. There are plans to open another type of club very similar to Moorland in the near future.

Tennis and fitness

This type of club offers indoor tennis in addition to fitness equipment and other sports. The positive of this type of club is that it has something for everyone in the family. This type of club is more expensive than a tennis-only club since there are options other than just tennis. Elite Sports Clubs (on Bluemound, on Burleigh and Lilly) are the best example of these clubs. Elite is staffed with excellent instructors and has group/private lessons available as well as USTA and other tournaments.

Private country club

This type of club is available only if the potential member knows current members, and generally there is a joining process to follow. The positive of this type of club is that there are generally more options to bring instructors that have worked in major college or professional tennis. This type of club is the most expensive of the three. Western Racquet Club is the best example in our area, and meeting current members is the best option to join.

Notes

Playing at a club won't automatically make you a great player, but it will lay the groundwork for skill improvement. Summers are very valuable times to increase ability, but having the chance to practice year round and to play tournaments at area clubs is very important to maximizing your potential as a player.
