Technology & Engineering Education @ EGCSD

What is Technology Education?

Technology Education provides an opportunity for students to learn about the processes and knowledge related to technology that are needed to solve problems and extend human capabilities.

STEM Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

Technology Education is STEM. (http://www.nysstemeducation.org/)

STEM without Technology

and Engineering is just

...more Math and Science.

We are trained to teach technology and engineering and incorporate them into fun and enriching hands-on activities. We make learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fun and exciting. Students look forward to a school day with Technology Education and some students even say Technology Education motivates them to come to school.

My colleagues throughout New York State have risen to the task of implementing high standards of math and science based technological activities. The skills and knowledge they are receiving now through these hands-on activities are the same skills that they will take with them into adulthood.

"Technology Education is a program of instruction designed to assist all students in meeting state intermediate standards for technology. Technology Education includes science, mathamatics, social science and language arts in a hands-on, systems-based approach to problem solving." (Excerpt from CTE Program review, 2011)

Priority #1

Technology Education is not just a class, It's a priority!

Mr. John P. Holdren the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy quotes President Barack Obama in stating “…STEM [science, technology, engineering, and math] is a priority, not only because we need today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders in innovation and help our economy, but also because we need to increase STEM interest and skills overall for everybody..."

What is Technology?

"Broadly speaking, technology is how people modify the natural world to suit their own purposes. From the Greek word techne, meaning art or artifice or craft, technology literally means the act of making or crafting, but more generally it refers to the diverse collection of processes and knowledge that people use to extend human abilities and to satisfy human needs and wants." (Excerpt from Standards for Technological Literacy, ITEA, 2000)

Technology (tech·nol·o·gy ) — 1. Human innovation in action that involves the generation of knowledge and processes to develop systems that solve problems and extend human capabilities. 2. The innovation, change, or modification of the natural environment to satisfy perceived human needs and wants.

What is Technological Literacy?

Technological Literacy is the ability to use, manage, understand, and assess technology.
